Lonely Boy & the Butandings—Tagalog for whale sharks—is a collaboration between the photographs of Filipino National Geographic Explorer Noel Guevara and Peewee Baumans’ hand-drawn interpretations.
At the heart of the piece is not the whale sharks, but Lonely Boy—a character I created as a quiet reflection of myself, and maybe of you. He carries anxiety, fear, and disappointment, yet remains open, searching for connection, bunny ears up in attention.
Here, he looks for friends among the sweetest of things & the gentlest of giants, and who, like Lonely Boy, are solitary travelers [suggestion].
The work is available as a special-edition 12 × 12-inch print on linen archival paper.
